1882 – Immigration Exclusion Act Prohibits Immigration of Criminals, Poor, and Mentally Ill

Posted on January 30, 2017 by ProCon.org

charge’. The law was designed to exclude immigrants whose undesirable
conditions might prove costly to society – including convicted
criminals, the poor, and the mentally ill.”
