Con to the question "Should the Government Allow Immigrants Who Are Here Illegally to Become US Citizens?"
"The Obama administration's failure to effectively secure our borders and enforce our existing immigration laws has led to an illegal immigration crisis that must be addressed. As an executive committee member of the conservative House Immigration Reform Caucus, I am working toward solutions that strengthen border security, streamline our legal immigration system, and guard against amnesty for those who break the law to enter our country.
In Congress, I was proud to be a vocal opponent of S. 744, the flawed Senate immigration bill that would have granted almost immediate legal status to millions of illegal immigrants. I additionally worked to promote conservative alternatives such as The SMART Border Act of 2013—legislation I cosponsored holding the Department of Homeland Security accountable for achieving control of the US – Mexico border territory and authorizing the use of up to 10,000 National Guard troops to assist in border security efforts if needed.
Any immigration reform legislation that earns my vote must send a clear message that the only path to citizenship is through legal means."
