"Legalizing immigration will bring up our economy because we will have an increased tax revenue and we will stop wasting resources and time trying to deport the people who are only here to escape the poor quality in their country and they are taking the jobs that our lazy people wont take because it is too hard."

"Immigration is legal. There is a process, and legal immigration does boost the economy, it costs money to become a US citizen. The fact that people actually believe immigration is illegal is flabbergasting"

"I agree with Tara & David, so I will not repeat. However, I will tell you I have personally pulled into a drive thru and the person speaking did not speak English. I learn from my daughter who took two years of Spanish in high school "no hablo espanol" and drove off."

"Funny how you say Americans are being lazy when there is a process that exists to come here legally that some immigrants are "too lazy because it's too hard." Jobs are being taken by undocumented immigrants making it harder for documented immigrants and citizens in general who are here legally to get jobs. I'm not an immigrant as I was born in the US but please explain to me why it's "too hard" to come here legally. It would be fair to legal immigrants too."
    • +4 +17 -13 Tara Dec. 4, 2014
"Seriously?! You mean all those jobs that are now unavailable to entry level workers, such as high school students and drop outs, because they are filled with people who can barely speak English and don't pay taxes yet somehow have easy access to WIC and food stamps?? Agriculture work has long been the predominant area for illegal labor, but in my state, illegals are overwhelming all entry level and low-skill labor forces. Most young people from my generation (1970s/80s) started the work-life as teens in service industries, farm work, or construction. Now these jobs are overwhelmingly filled by illegals. Another reason why the minimum wage has not kept pace with the cost of living."

"No, it will not. Employers will fire newly legalized citizens for the next wave of illegal aliens."
    • +1 +13 -12 Dale Oct. 7, 2012
"I hate to disagree, but I disagree. Legalization will bring DOWN our economy. Employers who utilize illegal labor do so because it's cheap labor. Why is it cheap? It's not because an illegal WILL work for less, its because they MUST work for less. What happens when we legitimize illegals? They don't HAVE to work for substandard wages. But illegals are here to earn money to send "home" to Mexico. What happens to our economy when we widen the pipeline that's sapping dollars from our economy? Employers will state that they CAN'T afford to pay the wages that Americans expect. What happens to them when they're forced out of business?"

"I disagree. It will on incentivize more illegal entry via border crossing or visa overstays. We allowed 3 million illegal aliens to become citizens in 1986. Why do you think we have 12 to 50 million illegal aliens today?"

"I totally agree with you Zach. Look at the homeless asking you for money. I have hardly seen immigrants asking for money, I have seen white people asking for money the most. Immigrants are willing to work for their money and of course they pay taxes. Taxes are taken out of their paychecks so they do pay taxes. Immigrants are usually just trying to escape all the poverty and all the violence in their countries. I mean put yourself in their shoes, if people are hurting your family wouldn't you want to escape from all that too. Would you really want to risk your family and kids in danger? I doubt it. High school students and dropouts have plenty of jobs to choose from. Like for real the job market for fast food chains always have job openings. If they want jobs like that, they are easy to find you just have to look for them. Maybe they might be lazy and just not look. That is ALL you have to do LOOK FOR A JOB. Lastly, every immigrant is not from Mexico or is Mexican, that is just insulting. There is something called Central America and there are countries such as Guatemala, Chile, Peru etc. Thank you for reading."

They are largely uneducated and a drain on the economy. In giving them absolution which we have done in the past, we simply encourage more of their criminal behavior."

"They should approve the DREAM ACT for illegal students that came to the country while they were children. They have no fault that they were brought when they were kids, Now we shouldgive them the opportunity to become U.S citizens. Maybe if they go to college for 2 years then they can get their citizenship. Most of them drop high school because they dont have the chance to go to college, they can't even get a decent job because they simply dont have a SSN. They can't even drive legally. They should give a change to illegal students to become U.S citizens they will be helping the economy by getting a better education than their parents and they will offer a better life for the family."

"It's not their fault they outperform you, it's your own. Coming here the "right" way is not on option if you have no say in the decision because you are a child. People do not leave their country because they want to, but because they have no choice. Living in a country full of violence and disaster is not a very promising scenario to raise a family. Also they aren't stealing money from anyone because they do not qualify for financial aid due to nonexistent SSN. Once they achieve their degree and citizenship they will start paying taxes and contributing to the system just like any other American."

"Well said, David. It's ok for taxpayers to pay for them while they get everything? No. That is just teaching their kids it is ok for them to break the law the rest of their life. And the students do get benefits, Nancy. Have you ever been to an LDSS office? That is where they get welfare, Medicaid, food stamps, SSI. Why not give it to the people who need it. They even get housing. Taxpayers in poverty have a hard time getting that, AND THEY PAID FOR IT! What would happen if we went to Mexico? We'd get jailed and/or deported. Why should they have special treatment?"

I've been living here my whole life too, and struggling to pay my bills, since they tax me to death to pay for my healthcare so illegals can get what they want. If I went to your country, how would I get treated? Would I get the same treatment as you? I think not."
  • +23 +77 -54 Stephanie Oct. 19, 2016
"I think they should be allowed because how do people know who is bad or not? Why would 'illegal aliens' come to the U.S. to do bad things when we live in a society who can catch the 'bad guys' quickly? Take into account the case of the Chelsea street bombing. They caught the culprit the next day and he was a citizen. All the immigrants want is a place where they can have more opportunities they could not have in their home country. They want to be part of this harmonic community in the U.S. When people say 'illegal aliens', they mostly mean the Latinos. But in World War II, alone, as many as 500,000 Latinos, mostly Mexican Americans, participated in the U.S. military. Mexican Americans have won 13 Congressional Medal of Honor awards, the highest of any American ethnic group. This is why I believe that the government should allow immigrants who are here illegally to become U.S. citizens. Even though I am a 7th grade student, I have strong opinions on this issue. I want to have a country with opportunities. I want to have a country that has culture spread far and wide and have fairness among all."

"lots of people coming through the southern border are bad people, there are good people just escaping a bad country also, but the problem is that the bad ones can break the law and easily get away because they have no papers, hence the reason why they are called "undocumented" so they can commit a crime and get away with it. us conservatives have no problem with people coming in this country but they have to come in the right way. lots of people have died from illegal immigrants such as mollie tibbetts who was murdered in a corn field for no reason by an illegal immigrant who was deported multiple times."
    • -7 +1 -8 Alec Jan. 11, 2017
"Wrong, wrong, wrong. Out of the roughly 3,400 Congressional Medal winners, there have been 34(not 13) Latinos, and a few less Mexican Americans. Also, given the almost all-white Civil War and the racial bias against latinos, there is no reason Mexican Americans should win the MOST Congressional Medal of honor awards. Adding on, around 7.5% of illegals should be deported for crimes. Plus, there is a difference between Latinos and illegals. On one hand, you have responsible, legal immigrants from countries like Cuba, Mexico, and Central America. On the other hand, you have low-skill, welfare-requiring workers who skip the line and break the law. By definition, all illegal immigrants have done a bad thing, as they have illegally entered/stayed in the country."

""The border" includes major USA airports as many illegal aliens arrive here from continents other than "the Americas" as tourists, students and international workers and never return to their country of origin. "The border" also includes the Canadian border which is very popular as the crossing point for many individuals who attained Canadian residency from other continents in order to eventually arrive in the USA. The issue is much larger than anyone can estimate but and the wasteful cost of closing just a small "border" will better be use to assist elderly USA citizens like me to pay for my medications and food as I have worked and paid taxes all my life. The problem is NOT that we don't have enough money; the problem is that we waste our money inefficiently. How about the millions of USA born individuals who choose not to work and spend their days using drugs and watching TV while their welfare and SSI checks (millions are not really disabled but we don't have enough money in the budget to hire enough people to monitor the claims) keep on pouring in their pockets, often monitored by their fancy "smart phones". Maybe they are the "smart" USA citizens, not like us fools that worked and contribute to find ourselves in poor."

"The border definitely needs to be sealed and everyone currently in the United States should be granted citizenship, illegal or not. Why should we try and make it so people from other countries DON'T want to come here? Why should we try and discourage them if they want to become legal citizens of the United States? We're trying to stop ILLEGAL immigration not immigration all together. I totally agree that the border should be sealed and that the people here should become citizens."

Thousands of people were lost between the way, killed by border police and strangers, drowned in oceans, and died due to weather conditions. If you are born in the United State of America, you don't know the feeling of immigrants, you don't know how challenges they faced to get a new country, you don't know about the parents whose children were tortured, raped, and killed by so-called human beings, and you don't know about those immigrants who have been in camps for more than three years, do not have the right to work and drive. They should be allowed to become a U.S. Citizen if they have spent a period of time and are not involved in breaking the country laws. They don't need your handouts, they just want your support to achieve their goals; However, they work harder and harder to build a new life. If they are given valued as a resident, they become more enthusiastic to work for the country in the future..."

Yes, these people are being killed by Border police, but that is because the border polices job to protect the border from illegal immigrants. Americans could still just as well feel the same way immigrants do, they just don't want to leave a country like this. However, if there is a reason that immigrants need to leave, there are possibly hundreds of ways to get in without danger. If there is war or you are being watched by a drug cartel or in a prostitute circle, ASYLUM VISA. If you are a skilled worker and want to come to America H1B VISA. If you want to come just for work, TEMPORARY WORK VISA. You can even ask to marry someone from the states for money (I know this from personal experience) in the K1 VISA. More than 1,000,000 people are allowed in legally per year, with 600,000 allowed in from Visas, allowing 400,000 every year to live LPR or temporarily. It is not fair that these people that live illegally should be given a reward for their bad behavior. Parents (well most good parents) don't do this with children, and it is not the foundation for countries either."

Finally, if we could let all the immigrants in the country and not suffer for it, we would. However, we have a line and legal process that ensures we get immigrants who contribute to the country. You may not be feeling the consequences of this yet as you are but a child, but people with higher education often have the burden of paying more taxes for illegals.

And, if they do become US Citizens, it is the US itself that will benefit from it. As there are more and more people, consumption increases and tax revenue is very high. There will be more people in the labor force contributing to the economy. There will be variations in cultures. And, most of the times illegal immigrants escape from their poverty-stricken country, hence, in US, they will be doing hard and honest work which will bring even more profits to US. US will have nothing to lose. Who are the US Citizens of today? Their past generations are from different countries."

"Yes, but over an 18-year period as follows: First (regardless of current age), provide temporary legal status to those qualified for (previously) DACA status, which will promote public health and tax parity with citizens (similar to green card status). Second, starting with the established date of "legal" status, count 18 years ahead to establish "full US Citizenship" status, thereby enfranchising those people with the right to vote, etc. that the conservatives are worried will vote them out of office. This gives the conservatives an entire generation to absorb the changes necessary to avoid being voted out of office by newly-minted citizens who tend to vote more liberally than the average (which is a main driver holding up immigration reform)."

They should not deport all the immigrants that are currently here because most of them already have families and aren't doing anything illegal besides being there. Yes, they should be doing it the correct way but some of them don't have enough money for a green card/visa and it does not last forever.

A visa lasts for 6 months and costs up to $190 USD. A green card lasts for 10 years and costs up to $1,070 USD. Many people who come to America tend to want to stay forever, this is their new home. People come to America to have a better life for themselves and even for their family back home, so they send over money to help them out."

Why is it that only the legal ones get to stay and prosper? All that separates the two sections is one has proper money and identification, otherwise they are the same. Both kinds of immigrants are trying to find a better life for themselves and their families, and while it is understandable that we should be careful around illegal immigrants, we should still give them a fair second chance at a better life. And if gun violence, or something like that continues to happen, we cannot blame the outsiders and foreigners; the problem is more deeply rooted in our own country's laws and beliefs. Kicking immigrants out isn't going to help with anything."

If the incoming immigrants are going to be hardworking, law abiding, tax- paying people then I think they should have a home in America like all of us do. They deserve the same equal opportunity and a chance in life they maybe did not have before. If immigrants are left illegal, the government would eventually make it a felony crime to be in the U.S illegally, which would do greater damage to the economy with millions of immigrants incarcerated which would cost millions of taxpayers money."

"I think that illegal immigrants should be allowed to become US citizens. Although they did commit a crime to the US by entering illegally, it would still be beneficial to the United States to let them remain in the country.

It would be beneficial to let them remain is the US, because there will be an increase in the amount of taxpayers in the United States. It will drastically boost the economy and create more jobs for the people of the United States. Not only will it boost the US economy, but we will also spend a lot less money on attempting to deport illegal aliens.

As a result of letting illegal immigrants become legal, it would greatly boost the US economy and help to raise the country out of its tremendous debt. These immigrants are kind, hardworking people that come to America to better their families and themselves as a whole. Legalizing these immigrants will also have a huge impact on illegal immigration. If we make it easier for these immigrants to become US citizens, then there will be HUGE decrease in illegal immigration and may even open the possibility to not make the border wall a necessity."

We don't need to build enormous city's out in the desert for illegals to live in. You state that Americans are lazy because they won't spend billions to build cities for these criminals, and that is absolutely preposterous. There should be no grey area. This simplicity and firmness removes the moral hazard of an amnesty. It's also clear that for the same reason the border must be physically reinforced and the border patrol strengthened so that this amnesty policy, which is unfair to those who have followed the law, never has to be undertaken again. It may be a lot to ask, but it would also help if quotas for immigration be eliminated, understanding that immigration of able-bodied and able-minded individuals are beneficial for this country, the world's only nation of immigrants. For the record, I'm not a Democrat but I'm also unconcerned about immigrants being more likely to vote Democrat, so long as quotas are eliminated (or greatly increased) from Asia and Europe as well as Latin America and Africa."

The immigrants are not taking jobs away from Americans, they are filling in the positions that most Americans think they are too good for. Also sending all the immigrants back, building a wall, and paying for the border patrol would cost billions of dollars that would come out of the Americans pockets. Deporting immigrants and letting the public law enforcement do it would make the society a more closed and untrusting place. The people wouldn’t trust the police, so if they were in trouble and an immigrant they would just stay silent. It would not be safe. there is nothing completely horrible about letting them become legal in our country, especially if they are boosting our economy. Also offer a hourly volunteer basis for people who cannot pay the fee. working for their city and state governments. This would allow them to get their work visa and documentation and give every state that has illegal immigrants a boost of Revenue over that first year and tax revenue after. Using that money in schools, hospitals and areas that are most affected by immigration. Allowing them to have all the rights given to them with a work visa for 7 years. a requirement is made to grow academically and to learn English. I believe if people were given the opportunity to pay a fine and be treated fairly they would take advantage of it support it and encourage others to do the same. This would also helps unemployment in the states affected by immigration because each state could hire and train people to assist with the documentation processes and in training of the immigrants.

Chances are you'd do whatever you can to provide for a family and make a living, to live the best you can. And if it involves breaking a law, well, you have to sacrifice, it's one or the other. Us Americans - there are a million other laws that are being broken at this moment and we choose to pick the most helpless people with no other choice to pick on. He said it was because in his country, there was no paper. No paper. The lady at the counter told him he needed to go back to Africa and get some documentation before he could even go to the next stage of application. Now assuming he had no paper in that country, how was he supposed to even pay for plane tickets to and from Africa? It's either getting what you want and breaking the law, or living in terrible conditions you don't believe in for the sake of something else you don't believe in."

Minimum wage or the cost of sweet potatoes is another discussion and that stuff is broken. The direct job of the president is the protection of our borders. It"s not OK for our executive branch to not do its job. I feel that allowing this to continue is no different than slavery. Think about that the next time you like the idea of cheep labor, they don't feel they have any other choice. The laws and ideology needs to change. But you have to enforce the laws we have first. What happens we change the laws and illegals that don't want that change just keep coming. We can't understand why anyone would not want to be a citizen of our wonderful country. But that is just not reality. Don't forget about the people making money transporting and taking money from these poor people comparable to slaves. "Yes, US citizens have a hard time seeing from an illegal immigrant's point of view. However, if I were in this particular situation, I would do the lawful thing and apply for citizenship. These people are not forced to break the law and enter the country illegally. Yes, I agree that the process of gaining citizenship is tough and long but that doesn't give immigrants the right to come to the US illegally. There are plenty of citizens in America today that have gone through the citizenship process and received it. So I ask you, why can't the other 12 million immigrants do the same thing? As I said before, I know it is a tough thing to gain ans a long process to go through but people are doing it all the time. I do believe the system should be reformed as to speed up the citizenship process while still being strict enough so not just anybody can slip by and receive citizenship. Things such as consistently paying taxes, being an honest worker, and having a clear criminal history should be a few of the criteria. Americans would protest for more rights as an employed citizen, and therefore, the prices of things we take for granted are skyrocketing, which is more moeny out of the farmeres pockets. Immigration supports, people!"

All of us U.S. born pitched in and did the work. Where I live now, there are no farms so guess what illegal aliens do to the wages here? Did you guess drive them down? Did you also guess they drive my taxes up because of all the government programs and subsidies for them? Who do you think pays for teaching their multiple children English or all the bilingual signs or their free healthcare, groceries etc. Where do you think the income they earn goes? It is not pumped back into local economies. It is sent back to Mexico to support their families. Illegal immigrants support the economy by doing work Americans do not want is a fallacy."

"There many different solutions to stop illegal immigration in general, if the U.S. takes the rights steps. The illegal immigrants already living in the U.S. should be able to receive legal papers especially if they have been living here for quite some time and have minimum criminal record. The best option right now is to give undocumented migrants some sort of permit like the DREAM ACT. The United States will definitely benefit from this, especially through economical means."

We should create a system that allows the to pay a yearly fee (somewhat like the one to renew your liscense plates) for a liscense that would specifically describe them and specify that they're immigrants. This way these peolpe can work, pay taxes, and help the economy a bit. They would also leave the country at their own accord knowing that they can come back, because most don't leave due to the fear of not being able to come back if needed. Also, there'll be more money flow into U.S.A. from people buying product here to sell there. It now becomes a win, win situation. ;)"

My solution for a quick fix in the economy is to charge illegal aliens a fee and those who came and over-stayed their visas a fine of $10.000 and put them on the road to citizenship. There will be a rise in home buyers, automobiles, everyone going back to visit native land boosts the airlines, colleges, the list goes on. I can see the circulation of the money they earn here in an economy that desperately needs it. There are so many of them, do the math. Ask yourselves what are they doing that is so horrible that we want to eradicate them? Think people. Think!!!! There is strength in numbers. Let's give this a shot because surely the ones already here are not going anywhere."

When the average wage per person in Mexico is $16 a day --- it makes it difficult , if not impossible to come up with that kind of money. Ask yourself a question ---- can you come up with 10 grand to stay in the US if some came to your door. An immigrant from Canada said the money isn't to pay your way in --- but to show that you will not be a ward of the state. We would be better off to legalize them so they can start paying taxes."

This must be a one-time amnesty; one that only accords temporary residence with employment privileges and registration, security clearance, and maintainance of status requirements. With regard to qualifying criteria, empower the people (citizens of this Country) to decide this via individual state public referendums. Perhaps options could be drafted by a bipartisan congressional committee. To obtain permanent residence, these temporary residents would have to qualify under existing laws like other law abiding people. Further, if they violate conditions of temporatry stay, they should be subject to administrative (expeditous) removal; no formal, time-consuming deportation hearing."

The argument of them stealing people's jobs is simply idiotic. If one who doesn't know the culture nor the language manages to "steal" your job, you deserve to have it stolen. Americans today complain about having no jobs yet illegal immigrants manage to make it by in a foreign country. This simply demonstrates Americas lack of work ethic and respect for those who have one. Illegal immigrants should be legalized for they are the ones who keep this so called "free" country running."

And yes it is obviously true that Americans were originally immigrants, we were not illegal immigrants, because there were no laws governing this land at the time. I completely support legal immigration, but we should not give citizenship to people that have broke our laws in coming here. That is a completely backwards system that would be extremely counterproductive."

Have them register for 4 years in some sort of service to the US people, Choices of assisting in national or state parks, roads infrastructure, or military service in combat arms units. As far as military service, there is a precident for bi-lingual units. The Canadian army has French speaking units. They speak English to coordinate with other units but French in their internal operations. There would be no reason we could not establish say an armored cavalry regiment that could be trained in Spanish, lead in Spanish as long as leaders are bi-lingual. Regardless of the type of service, the Govt could teach English and job skills. There are jobs and enough space in the US for these extra citizens let's get them paying taxes, being productive in the eyes of the rest of us."

"People here illegally would have to pass national security and criminal background checks, pay taxes and a fine, and learn English in order to qualify for a 'provisional legal status' that would allow them to live and work in the United States before being able to apply for permanent residency (a 'green card'). People with provisional legal status would not be eligible for welfare or other federal benefits.", according to President Obama's solutions, I can not see anything that harms America and its citizens. Nevertheless, it does not mean US would legalize illegal immigration endlessly. If we pay attention to President Obama's plan, we notice that US would "improving border security, streamlining legal immigration, and cracking down on employers hiring undocumented workers" at the same time."

"This person has a well-balanced, unemotional, non-partisan solution (similar to mine). I go further and require illegals enroll in a pathway to citizenship if they want to remain here, but that is less important than a balanced and rational approach in which the border is strengthened at the same time as a rational amnesty program is created, so that no future amnesty will ever be needed. At the same time, it's also key to increase or eliminate quotas, so that additional immigration from Asia and Europe balance immigration from Latin America."
  • -15 +34 -49 Annabel Dec. 12, 2011
"I'm torn on this issue to be honest. If you legalize illegal aliens, larger groups of people will come across the border(s) seeking refuge, and overwhelming government programs already at rock bottom from a lack of money and man power. At the same time, illegal immigrants are coming across the border because they are in desperate situations and need to get out of their home country. They are human beings and we should welcome them and help them. It's rather complicated. I think one of the best solutions would be to grant work visas to illegal immigrants so that they can work here legally, get paid by their boss and pax taxes without having to make up a social security number or steal one. A large portion of their taxes would go directly to the programs programs that would help them. Thus, I guess I am pro- legalization, but more pro- work visas."

""spent a lot of money" demonstrates that you have greater resources than others. Part of of the experience of poverty is lacking resources like money and accessing those agencies/bureaucracy that allows and facilitates your immigration process. Depending on the country that you derive from and the the category you are part of makes a significant difference in the placement of your immigration process. For example high tech skill worker vs manual/physical labor worker. In order to become a high tech skill you must already have certain resources available to pay for education. A manual laborer does not and thus, it is not always possible to wait and save money for the immigration process, otherwise they will stay in their own country. A broken immigration system has created disparities. The laws must change to become more efficient instead of waiting over 10 years for paperwork if you derived from particular countries. A basic understanding of the immigration process will show people that there is no one line that people are part of, but a web of categories and subcategories based on family, education, and nationality."

"The problem is that things are desperate usually, someone else already wrote why: "Actually, people don't leave their beloved country unless they are compelled. If they are given valued as a resident, they become more enthusiastic to work for the country in the future...""

I have a wonderful family with three grown up children who are all college graduated without ever received any public assistants even although I earned $4.25 an hour for living 32 years ago. I believe I am responsible for raising my children if I decide to have them. For the illegal immigrants, it seems to have children in US that their children are tokens to receive free meals, housing, medicare, pay no tax and send money out of US. They yield at us it is their rights! More horrific acts, they dumped their children at our border letting strangers to care them without parental loves. You can see those children are well groom and no signs of malnutrition. They take advantage of kindness of American people. But the children will not become healthy individuals without loving care of their parent! We have to stop illegal immigrants by all means. There are very clear boundaries between legal and illegal immigrants: Respect the laws and responsibilities of every individual. Some evil politicians try to fool people by erasing the "illegal" They use "immigrants" to mobilize mass to destroy our country for their political gains."

"In 1986 when President Reagan signed the Immigration Reform & Control Act (IRCA) (also known as the Simpson-Mazolli Act), it legalized 2.7 million illegal aliens between 1986 - 1996. They paid fees which were supposed to fund the implementation of IRCA. The government as usually diverted the money and it ended up costing the American taxpayer $78.7 billion. This time around another amnesty will legalize 30 million. The 11 million that is thrown around was the number of illegal aliens in this country in 2006. This will not solve the solution of cheap labor that the business community thrives on. Once the illegals are legal, they will entitled to the same wages, benefits, etc. that any other legal resident will be entitled to. Everything that's in the proposed legislation including guest worker program, pathway to citizenship, provision to learn English, knowledge of civics, criminal background check, medical check, bio-metric identification was already part of IRCA. the only thing we got in 1986 was amnesty and that's all we'll get this time."

The whole "all Americans were immigrants too" argument has been beaten to death, and it doesn’t even have any weight. Yes it is true, all Americans were originally immigrants, but when we came here there really weren’t any laws governing this land, and there wasn’t a massive economy here. There is a huge difference between us and illegal citizens. My personal views are very midway, much like a lot of other people on this site, I just wanted to express how dumb that argument is."

If the government was capable of making illegal immigrants pay fines, taxes and come forth with criminal background, then why it is not done yet? We all know that this country is made by immigrants and no one can deny if they know the history well. As far as breaking the law is concerned no one should be allowed to stay. It will send a clear signal. At the same time it will establish a metric. Closing a border is best way to remain at a constant level. I do agree with the idea of ISS card. The burden of combating with illegal immigrants has created a level of frustration with the government and that has affected in a most negative manner to Legal immigrants.

Many of the people are just trying to help there families. There has to be an easier way to allow the hard working people that don't have any criminal charges to stay here. The idea legalization is too broad and would cost too much money, it's innefcient and causes just too many problems. I don't believe that these people should be classified as criminals because we made our immigration system too complicated for these people to get in our country. My heart goes out to the people who are running from terrible conditions in their own country, but for them to arrive on US soil and expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter just because they were treated like crap is not acceptable. If they were to remain in the country and attempt to become legal citizens there would be no problem. The problem boils down to money. The people who remain in the country and do not file documentation, are not paying taxes. Taxes pay for the schools that their children attend, the roads they drive on, the police that protect them. The list goes on and on. Immigration is not the problem. The problem is people refusing to document their arrival and pay taxes."

"The word illegal says it all. I am in no way opposed to allowing people from other countries to come and become U.S. citizens or to live here temporarily. I think it is a great opportunity for people to have abroad internships, vacations, and VISAs and green cards. Those who come to live here illegally should not have the same rights as U.S. citizens. As citizens, they are required to pay taxes, medical and dental insurance, have a documented income, so if they make too much, they are not eligible for welfare, WIC, or food stamps. Illegal immigrants are paid under the table and are currently eligible for many free or cheap amenities.

If I could change things, I would allow a member or two of each family hoping to gain citizenship to come and work to earn enough money to pay for their families to become citizens, and set up a home for their families. And after that, they are treated like every other citizen in America."

"The legalization of illegal workers currently in the U.S. is not a good solution to the illegal immigration issue because it is not a durable solution. We could legalize all of the current workers here today, but then who would fill all of the job openings that are looking for illegal workers to fill them? Those jobs that want illegal workers would soon fill up with more illegal workers. The only way to permanently reduce the number of illegal workers is to reduce the number of illegal jobs offered to them. That means that we have to not only deport the workers who accept these jobs, but also punish the Americans who offer these jobs to illegal workers. Try to imagine the I.N.S. fining Americans $1.000 for each illegal worker found mowing their yard or cleaning their house. Illegal workers would gladly point out all of their employers if they were given say 1/4 of the fine. An illegal gardener might even be willing to "self-deport" if they got a $10,000 "job termination bonus" for fingering their old bosses. A comparison would be trying to fight the war on drugs by punishing drug users but not drug sellers. If we did that. We would have half of all Americans working as drug "pushers"."

I don't think deporting is the best option either, that would also be expensive. I believe that illegal immigrants can be granted legalization, but not citizenship. They will have access to minimum wage and be able to drive and get legal identification, but won't get social benefits, thus making sure that taxpayers won't be burdened too heavily by this. They might even be able to get citizenship after a certain amount of time, but this process shouldn't be any faster than getting citizenship legally the current way simply because it isn't fair for those that did come here legally and it promotes illegal behavior, immigrants will think, "If I can get away with coming here, what else could I get away with?""

"What I don't think that people understand about illegal immigration is that the people that illegally immigrate are putting themselves, and their entire family in danger. When family is found, the parents or legal guardians will get caught, and they will be sent to jail, however, if the family has children, the children will be sent to a foster home most likely, which can scar the child indefinitely. This leaves the family in a difficult situation, because the child protective services will most likely not give their children back to potential felons. The children are now with a family that they don't know or they are without a home, and their parents are in jail for what could be two years maximum. Everyone believes that this working class will now raise the economy because they are given the opportunity to pay taxes and better the economy, but what are the chances that they will want to be constantly surveyed and be required to pay something when they can live under the radar and live off the country scotch-free WITHOUT TAXES? Amnesty will also require a larger amount of surveyors and teachers, which will be paid to give these people information, which could actually HURT THE ECONOMY! The Pro is only getting sobs, NOT evidence."

What's the point in having a system of laws and rules if you allow for them to be bypassed?
Ultimately, it boils down to: do you believe in order or chaos?

If I lived in another country and wanted to come here...why in the hell would I want to follow the U.S. laws when I see so many MILLIONS disregarding them?"

If their living conditions are that bad, then they need to come together as one and make the changes to better their lives in their own country. We have citizens born in the United States and men and women who fought for this country that are homeless and struggle everyday and get NO help from our government but you all think it is okay to want to help ILLEGAL immigrants financially? That is just disgusting! Stop using the "poor innocent children" to pave the way for them! It is sickening that our tax dollars are supporting these immigrants when it could be used to support or veterans! If they cannot afford to pay the fees to come to this country, then to bad! It is time that the United States starts putting it's own citizens FIRST before these other countries because of their failures and/or living conditions! It is very disturbing that some people think this is okay for ILLEGAL immigrants to get this free pass! "No, because they took advantage of the U.S. and have already committed a crime, so send them back. There are many nice plates for them in their native country. I live 10 miles from TJ and since they have moved North, they have turned this area into upper TJ. I moved into a new, nice neighborhood, but after 17 years, it is going downhill with renters even renting to families of illegals in 4 and 5 BR homes. They can't speak or refuse to speak English. The schools and jails are full of them. If you want a real eye opener, I invite anyone to take a trip down to the local welfare offices and you will see where your tax dollars go. They get free money, free housing, free food, and the more kids they have to can claim, the more they get. Free, free, free, even a free cell phone. All YOU have to do is work every day and pay taxes to provide all these things illegals feel they are entitled to because living for free off Americans is their American dream."

what are you talking about "No one was born here." that does not even make any sense whatsoever. US History?
Our for fathers fought for our independence, established this country made it the great country that it is and i'm pretty sure they didn't do it so a bunch of people could just illegally enter this country and destroy it because that's exactly what illegals are doing. And what is this "Have you ever tried learning a different language?" business are you implying that learning another language is hard or something? if someone wants to move to another country then they need to atleast put in the effort to learn there language if that's too much then they have no business there, that is just common sense!

"The first and "most" important fact that is being overlooked in this debate is the fact that millions of people are here illegally. Sanctuary cities, harboring illegals, subverts the rule of law and the constitutional process of governing. Only Congress has the authority to make immigration law.

Democrats refuse to negotiate for anything but a comprehensive reform bill, They don't want additional border security and some want outright open borders. That won't fly.

There must be a better way that will allow the two parties to compromise. Allow those who have been here for a number of years legal status. Develop a viable work permit for farm workers and others to work and return home. The number would have to be limited.

More details would need to be worked out, but the constitutional way to correct the problem is through compromise, otherwise the system is being subverted."

"Restricted, legal immigration is not a problem. MASS immigration like the US (and especially Europe like in Sweden and Germany) is a serious problem, especially illegal immigration (obviously). I can understand if you do not think much of this and you want to be "tolerant" and "progressive," but imagine this situation; a violent crime is committed by an illegal with ties to terrorist groups. This has happened many times before. We are becoming outsiders in our own countries, and in a few decades we will be the minorities in our OWN country. Be it white or black, as natives, we will no longer be the majority, and it will no longer be our country. Mostly, this is not a race issue at all. It is a cultural and social issue that needs to be resolved quickly.
Take Sweden - it is the only developed (first world) country that will become less developed (third world) by 2030 (UN's Human Development Index). And yes - it is because of their mass immigration problems and the mass amounts of Muslims and "refugees" pouring in.
What was the state of our country before and after previous immigration laws?"

Illegal Aliens are taking jobs at lower pay rates that Americans should be working at a higher pay rate and paying taxes & social security which Illegal Aliens are not paying. They are also withdrawing Federal benefits that only American citizens should be entitled too. If Illegals are legalized, the border will not be secure and this will allow employers to layoff legalized immigrants and hire the next wave of illegal aliens at a lower pay rate. Thus the problem with illegal aliens entering the country will continue."

To breakdown the term illegal Aliens that refers to an individual who is in the country unlawfully (illegal) and unlike you all American citizen or foot printed & documented on the day of our birth, presented with a certificate of birth. An individual in the country unlawfully we have no idea who you are, what your intention are, where you come from (alien). I use all lawful terms as they are written such as; a person who has been convicted of a crime and has served their required sentence in prison upon release they will forever be a convict. It's a one or two word designation that lawyers, peace officers, elected official like to create to quickly identify what you did or who you are. If you dislike the designation you should do something to change your status; apply for legal residency or citizenship or go home. You have choices. And by the way I do feel threaten."

"The Senate has voted three times to legalize illegal immigrants and we were BARLEY able to stop the legislation in the republican-controlled House of Representatives. If we continue down this same path, we may be able to block them for 2, 5, 10 or even 20 years, but eventually the democrats will regain control over the government and will definitely give them citizenship and voting rights. No amount of protesting that we do will stop it. Many republican congressmen will vote for amnesty also.

Here is a unique solution that would permanently prevent any future illegal immigration. In exchange for enacting 100 extremely tough immigration enforcement laws that mostly affect future illegal immigrants, we will grant "legal resident" status (but not citizenship) to most current illegal immigrants. The law needs to be a constitutional amendment to ensure that future congresses will not be able to repeal the 100 enforcement laws or water them down. I consider this to be an anti-amnesty bill because it will eventually prevent a lot less amnesties than would occur once the democrats are in control."

When you legalize the Hispanics you also legalize from countries that are sponsors of terrorism (Somalia, Iran, Iraq, etc). We have a guest worker program on the book already, and adding another 30 million people to an economy that already has 20 million out of work will be devastating. In 1986 when amnesty was granted to 2.7 million illegal aliens, it cost the American taxpayer $78.7 billion, the fees that we supposed to pay for administration of IRCA were diverted elsewhere. This time it will be in the trillions. We don't have a broken immigration, we have laws that are not enforced. Another amnesty will open the door to 100 million next time around. Big business wants the cheap labor, Democrats want the votes. With another amnesty, the Democrats will get the votes, but this won't solve big business demand for cheap labor."

Also, it would encourage other immigrants to come illegally instead of through the legal process if the illegal process were faster. Lastly, although it might bring out some illegal immigrants, the ones with criminal records who we want to catch would probably not come forward because they would know that they would be deported if caught. b. Turns once meek 'dreamers' into gang prey, porn bait, drug pushers, or Soros' psychopathic sycophants
    c. Turns thriving cities into proliferating villages of tent squalor and towns into decrepit facades"

"I have been studying Illegal Immigration for a bit of time now. What conclusion have I come to you may ask. The first thing is that Illegal Immigration is generally not a good thing. There are a few pros to illegal immigration, but the cons outway the pros by a mile! Some may topics for why Illegal Immigration isn't good for the US is Safety. The country is not MORE safe with more immigrants coming illegally. If you didn't know, coming to the US illegally isn't safe either. Immigrants can't get healthcare, education, or seek help if attacked because of the risk of being found out. Another topic is terrorists, you probably can figure where I am going with this so I don't feel the need to explain it. The last MAIN topic is drain in economy. When immigrants come to the US they normally don't know English, don't have valuable skills, and they force the social and the welfare programs to focus on them instead of more important places that effect the US greater. Some say that it isn't fair for them to be taken out of the country if they haven't been bad, or have been living in the US for many years. This may be so, but it was their choice to come in illegally and they knew the possible consequences. I hope this helped!"

"No! We already tried this in the 80's, remember? The U.S. granted amnesty to millions of illegals in the 80's and look what happened. It attracted more illegals to come over and it solved NOTHING for America or the illegals. It only made the problem worse. Illegal immigration costs the U.S. way more than it helps through bankrupting our health care system, using up our law enforcement, and dumbing down our educational system. The solution is simple: Expand the guest worker program like other countries and enforce sanctions on companies AND individuals who hire illegals. Mexicans will still have jobs but they will be DOCUMENTED (not citizens but documented) and the illegals who remain here will go back to Mexico eventually when they are sick and tired of being cold and hungry. It won't be pretty, but for America's sake, it has to be done. And don't say I am heartless. If I sneak into Europe illegally for a better life, I would expect nothing less. Mexicans need to have a revolution in Mexico and fight the corruption just like White Americans (and our slaves of course) did in the Revolutionary War. We didn't flee to Canada, we fought the British to fix our own country!"

"I have no problem with people coming out of the shaddows, paying a fine and getting a card to be here legally if they have broken no laws - but actually many of them have broken laws and not just by coming. In order to work they have to have fake ID. This has created a huge market and industry for idently theft. This is a form of criminality that comes with illegal immigration, just like economic slavery, which also comes. It is just plain wrong to tolerate illegal immigration on so many levels. It is not about the people who come unless they come and want to form their own insular communities and not merge with American culture, language and way of life. Then it is abou the people, as they do not fit with American life. Consider how some cultures treat women as second class. Do you want someone with those values to gain political power? I don't."

"No! Absolutely not! The illegal immigration needs to be fixed period. The politicians needs to stop making excuses for all the illegal aliens. The United States of America citizens (tax payers ) are the ones being burden with the illegal aliens being deported. All the children born in the United States of America by any parents that is an illegal alien, needs to be deported also. Stop supporting them on any kind of state, federal or government money. Stop waisting tax payers money in allowing illegal aliens to use the united states constitutional laws to avoid deportation period. Any immigrant citizens that have any and all illegal aliens residing with them in their homes, working for them, harboring them from deportation, punish them also this is a felony harboring a fugitive, charge them the cost of their deportation expenses, place their citizenship on probation with a 10, 000 dollar addition fine. The American citizens have to start demanding that their state elected officials stop protecting them and start reporting them to the ICE agents. Illegal aliens have been given rights that the have not earned, DACA and Dreamers completely end. The USA and American are first. Illegal aliens free America life style is over deport now."

Our government is doing absolutely nothing about the millions of illegal immigrants that are continuing to flood our home towns and make them their own. They are collecting our welfare that American taxpayers pay for when they have absolutely no right to. They aren't American they shouldn't have the same benefits even if they have their Visas. American taxpayers money is literally being wasted on lazy immigrants who can do nothing but open their legs and reproduce 20 babies, sit on their a**** and say they are stay at home mothers. Its all a bunch of bull****. People wonder why our economy has gone to ****... look around and see what the majority of the population is nowadays. Try and speak to a random person on the street and half the time they cant even understand you because they are too lazy to learn the English language. Then they look at you like your stupid for not understanding them. what has this nation come to when you cant even get a job at some places unless you now English and Spanish? Its all a joke. Look at statistics they are much more likely to commit crimes. And they steal jobs. I know what you guys are going to say they take jobs Americans don't want. Bull I have a parent who is enemployed and is no longer recieving unemployment this person would do any job but there is none cause of illegals. And I know a person who had a job and all it was, was illegals or imigrants and they got rid of her because she was one of only three whites working in the factory and a women. Revese discrimination is what it is becoming. They are ruining the economy, justice system, and America as a pride and beautiful country.
