No More Deaths/No Mas Muertes Biography

Position:
Pro to the question "Should the Government Allow Immigrants Who Are Here Illegally to Become US Citizens?"
Reasoning:

“I believe that access to a pathway to citizenship for people living in the US without papers is extremely important, but we cannot compromise the lives of people dying on the border as a way to access that…

There are a lot of people whose lives will be improved by offering a pathway to citizenship, but I don’t see the situation on the border improving substantially unless immigration reform recognizes there is a humanitarian crisis going on and includes measures to reduce deaths rather than just trying to increase enforcement… We need to create opportunities based on faster family unity, keeping families together, and also work opportunities at all levels so that people aren’t crossing the desert for these things.”

Description:

“No More Deaths is a humanitarian organization based in southern Arizona. We began in 2004 in the form of a coalition of community and faith groups, dedicated to stepping up efforts to stop the deaths of migrants in the desert and to achieving the enactment of a set of Faith-Based Principles for Immigration Reform. We later developed into an autonomous project. Since 2008 we have been an official ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson.”
