Pro Deportation - "What is being done to deport the criminals that come here to steal the American dream from those who were born here? This will never stop until we pass laws and enforce them against the people who hire them; such as heavy fines and/or suspending or pulling licenses of employers who profit by using them. If they can't get job's here, they have no reason to stay. Just think how our economy could benefit by millions of jobs that are now held by them, going to tax paying Americans who don't send the money out of the country. If we spend half the money that we spend trying to make life here easy for them on making it harder for them, this problem would be solved. The day they get here illegally they show no respect for our laws so why do we welcome them with open arms, pay for their health care put their kids in the welfare system. I think in the long run it will be a lot cheaper to send them home. If we need cheap labor that badly, give them a temporary visa make the people who hire them pay for it. If they run or violate any rules never allow them to return." Mark, July 27, 2009
Pro Annexing Mexico - "The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border is the problem! Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: Megamerge: the Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border and megamerge the two countries, with mass 2-way migration equalizing the development and opportunities... the solution is not to stop up, tighten up, set up a process at, or regulate and control undocumented workers and illegal aliens, but to dissolve the border and annex Mexico to the U.S., replacing the Mexican government with the U.S. government, allowing Americans (all of us) to travel and move freely in both directions, resulting in underdeveloped Mexico finally getting developed like what recently happened to East Germany when the Berlin Wall came down, after which gringos born there will consider themselves just as much Americans as gringos born in Kansas, like Barack Obama." TL, May 11, 2009
Pro Deportation - "I think if we start deporting the newest immigrants working backwards we will be able to get true Americans back to work faster and reduce the strain on the government assistance." Kevin, April. 27, 2009
Concerned Jobless Americans Will War with Illegal Aliens - "I found this site looking for information on illegal aliens. I am very concerned about this subject, for I feel in a few years we will no longer be America. I see more and more the crime rate rising, automobile accidents involving unlicensed, uninsured, illegal aliens. The anger I see in Americans who are having a hard time finding work. The US is made up of many cultures; I fear that when Americans have had enough and can't get a job we are going to have war. Many Legal Mexicans may be caught in the middle. Your site puts some light on other perspectives even though most of the proponents of Illegals are very anti American." Jeff, Mar. 12, 2009
Pro Term "Alien" vs. "Immigrant" - "Illegal aliens are not immigrants of any type, they are foreign intruders. Also illegal immigration benefits Latin Americans 30 times more than non-Latin Americans, it discriminates based on race and national origin. Anyone who supports illegal immigration supports this massive racism. Also if the National Hispanic Journalists don't like the term 'illegal alien,' they need to pick a different term that does not use the word immigrant, since calling illegal aliens 'immigrant' of any type is offensive and insulting to real (legal) immigrants, and is supportive of extreme bias against non-Latinos." Jean Baptiste, Feb. 10, 2009
Pro Deportation - "While watching the 5 P.M. News today, I can no longer hold back on my disgust toward those in our Government that believe 'Illegal Immigrants,' have the same rights as American citizens. By definition they are here 'illegally,' NOT citizens, and deserve no more than deportation. They do not deserve FREE; education, legal assistance, housing, medical and hospitalization, or any of the social services that keep them here. It is this type of 'do good' mentality by those in power that is helping to bankrupt our country. Parasites can live on the host only so long, before killing it. The budget crises we are in can be remedied in a large part by sending the illegals back to where they came from... All have an opinion about this situation... We have Federal Laws concerning immigration, someone needs to grow a backbone and enforce them. I will be the first to volunteer." David, Feb. 9, 2009
Pro Road to Citizenship - "Everyone seems to be so focused on the Mexican border. They are oblivious to all the other immigrants coming in from South-America and the world over. My solution for a quick fix in the economy is to charge illegal aliens a fee and those who came and over-stayed their visas a fine of $10.000 and put them on the road to citizenship. There will be a rise in home buyers, automobiles, everyone going back to visit native land boosts the airlines, colleges, the list goes on. I can see the circulation of the money they earn here in an economy that desperately needs it. There are so many of them, do the math. Ask yourselves what are they doing that is so horrible that we want to eradicate them? Think people. Think!!!! There is strength in numbers. Let's give this a shot because surely the ones already here are not going anywhere." Nadine, Jan. 20, 2009
Con Deportation of Parents of US Citizen Minors - "I am responding to Registered Nurse Stephany Gabbard's [Pro position statement to "Should illegal aliens, who are parents of U.S. citizen minors, be deported?"]. She has a couple of misinformed arguments. She argues that immigrants are rewarded for disobeying US law, by having their children be granted citizenship if they are born on this soil. She also argues that illegal alien parents are seldom deported, and that illegal alien families are entitled to welfare benefits... [I]t is COMPLETELY FALSE to say that illegal families are entitled to welfare. Nowhere will you ever go seeking welfare in this beautiful country of ours that you will not be asked to prove your citizenship... [I]t's a universal rule that people become citizens of whichever country they are born... this is a country of immigrants, and that people like you and me are the ones whose grandparents forcibly took control of this land from Native Indians. If you want every child born here to be taken back to the country of the parents, keep in mind too that all countries of the world will be entitled to equally deport any human being born there but whose grandparents weren't born there... Last, our honorable nurse here does not seem to realize that the only reason people come to this country is to avoid poverty, starvation and death and to try and live like human beings. And the reason the whole world is poor is because of the American capital system which, fortunately, just collapsed the other day, and now many baby boomers are planning to retire in foreign countries." Tweeny, Dec. 10, 2008
Pro Social Security Number for Illegal Immigrants - "I believe that all illegal immigrants should get a social security number like my kind did after they stopped being slaves for years and years... [A]n illegal family can't get a home, job, or go places becase they don't have a social security number. [I]t breakes my heart and makes me think of my past generations of enslaved families." Lenya, Oct. 11, 2008
Pro Mexican Responsibility - "It is insane to think that American citizens can be responsible for every illegal that comes to this country. Where is Mexico's responsibilty for their own citizens? If we don't bear down on Mexican officials to better control the situation and clean up their corrupt government we are going to be a third world country soon. No one should be allowed into this country to work if they cannot get back home on their own with their own government's assistance. Mexico is playing us to the benefit of a few officials who don't give a damn about their own people." Judy, Sep. 19, 2008
Pro Deportation and Money Transfer Restrictions - "With no borders there is no country. It should be illegal to send money out of the country when the economy is so slow. It would greatly improve our economy if it were to remain in this country and the illegals were sent out instead." John, Sep. 13, 2008
Con Amnesty - "Why is not my government threatening reprisal to the nation of Mexico for encouraging its citizenry to violate our sovereignty? Why is not my government suing other nations for the costs that US taxpayers are forced to bear due to this invasion? the social service costs, the economic costs, the environmental costs, the cost of apprehension, detention, legal process and deportation? They can go back o[n] their own will just as they came. In such case, they return to their nation of origin better off than their countrymen who didn't violate our national sovereignty -- all due to the misappropriated and accrued benefits they gained while here at great cost and trouble to the US citizenry. Otherwise, expulsion by force should be enacted. Particularly offensive are arguments for amnesty based upon the contention that the US citizenry itself is responsible for the problem of illegal immigration. Accordingly, goes the implication, absorbing this invasion is only due penance: pay back, blowback, whatever. Such arguments spin upon interpretations of our nation's history of policies, both domestic and abroad, both political and economic. Whether or not instances of our national policies have been errant, such judgment itself becomes errant when it is used to paint the US citizenry to be knowingly ill of will toward the rest of the world. Sure, see how that plays in a political campaign speech. What effect do you expect by claiming our 'mistakes' as a nation warrants our dissolving sovereignty and all attendant exclusionary privileges of citizenship? Let's return control over national destiny to the citizenry by making absolutely clear that foreign invasion will be aggressively resisted, without excuses, without concessions, and without exceptions." Storie, Aug. 21, 2008
Pro Military Enlistment of Illegal Aliens - "I believe that we have too many bleeding hearts in this country... All theses Illegals are sneaking into our country instead of coming through the front door. I think if they want to come to the USA so bad, let's put them in our military and put them on the front lines like the rest of our guys. All the jobs that is said the Americans don't want, they take but, if America would think about it we have people that could do those jobs. Think about it, all these juvenile detention centers that hold criminals that get second chances could be doing the jobs that nobody else seems to want. That's my opinon thank you." Richard, Aug. 21, 2008
Reader's Analysis of Comments - "I have read the feedback from ProCon. org readers and I came to a conclution, most people's oppinion talk about hate towards alliens rather than searching for a real solution that makes sense and can benefit both sides of the coin. Let's face it, who is picking your food, who is serving your food, who is building your homes, who is grooming the streets of AMERICA? We need them as much as they need us. Alliens represent a positive economical impact in the US infrastructure and we can' deny it. However, many people argue that alliens bring our wages down. But the reality is that the laziness and liability of many workers is the main reason most employers chose the hard worker allien." Gerardo, July 3, 2008
Con Term Illegal Immigration - "I will continue to insist that the term 'Illegal Immigration' is an OXYMORON. 'Immigration' is, by definition, a LEGAL process and we are undeniably a country founded by IMMIGRANTS. Immigrants, including from Mexico, coming into California often make highly valuable contributions to the State and to the Country. ILLEGALS are an entirely different story and all too often join gangs and commit crimes. Among the multitude of problems caused by this circumstance is how it negatively impacts those who come legally. A prime remedy will be for ALL Mexicans to recognize and verbalize the problems and seek solutions." William, May 27, 2008
Reader's Analysis of Economic Forces - "Notwithstanding all of the emotional arguments in favor of legalizing illegal immigrants, the US is now in recession and immigrants, both legal and illegal won't be seen as positive economic forces. In states like Ohio, Pennslyvania and Indiana, illegal immigrants are already viewed negatively as taking jobs away from citizens and legal immigrants. ICE will continue to crack down on illegals, no matter how many of them demonstrate in the big cities." Patrick, May 2, 2008
Pro Employee Verification - "Solve the immigration problem. Enforce the existing law and have the employers verify legal status of their workers. If the illegals can't get a job, they will go back home." Cliff, Jan. 18, 2008
Positive Feedback and Suggestion - "I find it hard to believe that NO ONE has made any comments to all the information contained on this site! I am also impressed by your format and would think that practically anyone reading it should have some specific reactions. My immediate thought is that the one approach I have not read much about is to treat the illegal immigration problem by dealing with the countries of origin in ways to improve our methods of controlling and improving the quality of life for those who are planning to move to the USA." Frederick, Jan. 8, 2008
Pro Deportation - "As a legal immigrant to this great nation and one who served it when most would not (USMC), I say it's time to send them all home and I mean all. My parents as well as myself where never given free anything when we came to this nation, we where asked to work hard, stay out of trouble, LEARN english, and we would be rewarded with freedom. Those who are coming over now are leaches, plain and simple, people with little courage to change there own nation, people who want something for nothing. They bring our wages down, take our food stamps, housing, free medical care, while we have to work our butts off to pay this... So as I said, let's send them home to fix their nations. Not to make ours like their slum holes." Hans, Jan. 5, 2008
Con Access to Public or Private Services - "We should not reward any illegal for coming into this country the wrong way... If you are not legal in this country, you should not have access to our Banking Industry, our Medicaid, Medicare or any other benefit that we offer to our citizens and those who entered into this country legally. Also we need to stop catering to the Hispanic population. Stop dual signage, stop dual language in our Driver's Licenses, stop dual language period... We have laws on the books, let's use them. Send Illegals back to whatever country they have come from. No excuses. No political deals. No rewards for being here illegal." Barbara, Dec. 6, 2007
Negative Feedback - "How do you claim to be non-partisan when you use the exact same demeaning terminology as the nativists? 'Illegals' is a racial epitaph. 'Illegals' is used to demean human beings so that the racists can have a clear conscience after treating migrants like sub-humans. Dogs get more respect in Land of the free America than migrants do. These people are NAFTA refugees; moreover, they are economic refugees. They are as much god's children as the next man." Maldonado, Nov. 29, 2007
Positive Feedback - "I just discovered your site. It appears to be very informative on an issue that affects every citizen, business and government entities. The President's proposal as I remember is one that makes sense. Issue a limited work permit, (believe it said for 3 yrs). By doing so, there will be accountability of all illegal persons along with their spouses and children." Maria-Elena, Nov. 26, 2007
Con Media Influence - "The longer this debate goes on the more hate and bigotry will grow. It is not fair to allow radio and TV networks to continue spreading lies to their gullible scapegoat searching listener. The hate these talking heads are breeding will haunt America for years. As a second generation Hispanic I have become angry at the republican party 'I can punish than more than you' political campaign. I will never vote republican again and I will continue to relay this message to the thousand of Hispanics I communicate with on a daily basis. I thank the Internet for affording me the medium." Jaime, Nov. 26, 2007
Pro Naturalization - "I think the solution to illegal immigration is to make all the illegal aliens citizens and make them have to pay taxes and get ID's and get put through everything the American citizen gets put through on a daily basis. If they came to America to be free, they were wrong. America is a country that has rules, regulations and laws that supports and protectes it's citizens. The immigrants that came here illegally wanted to be Americans, so let them become Americans. If the immigrant came here then they should be willing to work for the country they are living in. Put some money back into the system so it can be here for the future for you grandchildren and great-grandchildren to have!" Diane, Apr. 27, 2007
